OCOP 3-star (Thanh Hóa province) Thanh Hóa OCOP Council Date not stated

Spico is the trade name of Công ty TNHH Spicy Country, a Thanh Hóa maker of traditionally fermented chili sauces and condiments registered on 10 February 2020 (tax code 2802830520). Its products ferment locally grown chili and tomato in earthenware jars for over three months (some over six), at a raw-ingredient ratio of 60–70%, with no additives, preservatives, colourings or artificial flavourings. The name “Spico” is a contraction of “Spice Country.”

The company was founded by Lê Minh Cương (born 1992), and describes itself as a local processing workshop rather than a factory. In late 2021 it won first prize in a BSA-run sustainable-agriculture startup competition.

Sourcing and production

Chili and tomato are sourced from five districts of Thanh Hóa (Hoằng Hóa, Thiệu Hóa, Yên Định, Thọ Xuân, Nga Sơn) under VietGAP/GAP cultivation standards. The source describes a 12-step production process, with fresh chili fermented in earthenware jars within 3–5 hours of harvest for over three months (some lines over six), and a shift from plastic to glass bottles. The company reports capacity of 3,000–5,000 units/month (Báo Đầu Tư, 2021) and annual output of ~30,000 bottles with revenue over 1 billion VND/year (Báo Thanh Hóa, ~2022–2023), with 10+ local workers (Báo Đầu Tư, 2021) and contracted chili/tomato offtake across five Thanh Hóa districts.

Markets

Domestically, Spico sells through spico.vn, Shopee Mall, Lazada and TikTok Shop, plus partner retailers including Chus.vn (which has an English page for international customers in Vietnam), Organica, Ngỗng / An Biên Food, Xanh Suốt and The Bottle Shop. The children’s chili sauce uses organic coconut nectar from Sokfarm as its sweetener, in place of industrial sugar. As of the source review (April 2025), Spico had no formal exports; international reach to date is via the Chus.vn English channel serving international customers in Vietnam.

  • Sokfarm — supplies the organic coconut nectar used as the sweetener in Spico’s children’s chili sauce (an ingredient partnership named in both brands’ sources).
  • Hygie & Panacee — a fellow participant in the BSA “Khởi nghiệp Xanh” (Green Startup) program for small agricultural producers.
  • Nacoms — another small Vietnamese food processor listed on the Chus.vn English marketplace for international buyers.

Limitations of this data

  • We have not visited the facility. Figures (SKU count, capacity, annual output, revenue, worker count, ingredient ratio, fermentation time) are self-reported by the company or cited to Vietnamese press as of the noted years, and are not independently audited here.
  • As of April 2025 there were no formal exports; export_markets is therefore empty. The only international-facing channel reported is Chus.vn, which serves international customers within Vietnam.
  • Certification detail is limited to OCOP 3-star plus basic standards; we have not inspected the underlying certificates or their current validity.
